How to install an NRG Hub and Quick Release

Mar 18th 2026

Install Guide: NRG Hub + SRK-200 Quick Release + Steering Wheel

What You’ll Need:

  • Socket set (typically 19mm or 21mm for steering nut)

  • Allen keys (for 6-bolt hardware)

  • Torque wrench (recommended)

  • Blue Loctite

  • Flathead screwdriver

  • Wire crimpers (if wiring horn)

 Before You Start:

  • Disconnect the battery (prevents airbag issues)

  • Make sure your wheels are straight

  • Take a picture of your factory wheel alignment (helps later)

Step 1: Remove Factory Steering Wheel

  1. Pop off airbag or center cover

  2. Disconnect airbag/horn wiring

  3. Remove center nut (leave it threaded a few turns)

  4. Pull wheel loose from splines

  5. Remove nut + wheel completely

Tip: Leaving the nut on prevents smashing yourself in the face when it pops loose

Step 2: Install NRG Hub Adapter

  1. Slide hub onto steering column splines

  2. Make sure it is clocked straight

  3. Route horn wire through hub

  4. Reinstall center nut

  5. Torque securely

Tip: If the hub isn’t straight now, your wheel won’t be straight later

Step 3: Install Quick Release (Back Half)

  1. Place rear half of quick release onto hub

  2. Line up bolt holes (6x70 pattern)

  3. Apply blue Loctite to bolts

  4. Tighten in a star pattern

Step 4: Wire the Horn (Optional)

  • Connect horn wire from hub → quick release contacts

  • Ensure solid connection

  • Test before final assembly

Note: Some setups require a ground wire to the hub

Step 5: Install Steering Wheel

  1. Bolt steering wheel to front half of quick release

  2. Use Loctite on bolts

  3. Tighten evenly in a star pattern

Step 6: Final Assembly

  1. Snap quick release together

  2. Reconnect battery

  3. Test:

    • Steering alignment

    • Horn function

    • Quick release lock

✅ Final Checklist

  • All bolts tight with Loctite

  • Wheel is straight while driving

  • No wobble or play

  • Quick release fully locks every time

⚠️ Common Mistakes (READ THIS)

  • ❌ Not using Loctite → bolts WILL loosen

  • ❌ Installing hub crooked → steering wheel off-center

  • ❌ Forgetting horn wiring

  • ❌ Not fully seating quick release

Drift Use Tips (Important)

  • Recheck all bolts after first drive

  • Expect slight wear over time with aggressive driving

  • If you feel play, inspect immediately

Pro Tip from Drift American

A properly installed quick release should feel:
